Reflections on Edwin Valero's death

The boxing world is in shock. One of its shining stars took his wife's life and later, his own life. If you have been following the news, Edwin Valero was troubled lately with drug and alcohol problems. His set of problems piled up as the days went by and what finally did it was his killing of his wife, Jennifer Viera de Valero.

What a shame. At first, I felt sorry for his two daughters and of course, his wife Jennifer. But I knew right then that his boxing career was over. 27 wins, no losses and 27 wins by way of knockout, PRETTY IMPRESSIVE. He was even being groomed as one of Pacquiao's next opponents in what could have been a superfight between two brawlers, two southpaws with utmost power, two heroes of their respective countries and two men who personify the word "warrior" in every way (in the ring).

There's a lot of what if's in this. But here is the take from TRAINLIKEABOXER on that: BOXING is supposed to cultivate the warrior spirit--- the ability to fight your own demons. A champion that Valero was, he was not a champion outside the ring. For me, that is disappointing. I think that training for boxing should be your way out of trouble. It is the way for most boxers and boxing enthusiasts but what just happened lately is just sad, just so unfortunate. I can only judge the man based on his accomplishments in the ring, not the person himself. All I can say is, Rest in Peace Edwin Valero and Jennifer Viera de Valero.

Use boxing for a better world. That could be a cliche, but hey, TRAINLIKEABOXER means it.
